What kind of dog tricks/commands should I teach my dog?
I want to teach my dog (medium-sized mutt) some (more) tricks. He is around 9-10 months old.
He knows:
Sit
Stay
Down
Paw
Turn Around (turns around in a circle)
Up
Off
Leave it
Jump (on command and jump over objects such as poles, etc)
Catch (in the air as well as fetch/retrieve)
Get it (get something that I ask for)
Go home (go to his house/dog house)
Drink (water on command)
… that’s all I could currently think of…
What are other commands (particularly useful commands) that I could teach my dog. Try to detail the steps of teaching my dog this trick.
Thank you.
Also:
No
Stop
Come
Go (away or somewhere I point)
Back (walk backwards)
Find (another person and bring them to me)

I like the idea of speak and shhhh. I have 2 dogs, one speaks on command and the other knows shhhhhh.
The only other thing I can think of my male peke thinks he is a greman shepard, my fiance works nights and we have trained the dog to survey. On occasion when we hear noises at night I will open the door and tell him to survey, he walks through every room in our apartment. We taught him this by using a leash at fist and telling him we were going to survey. We followed the same path every time and rewarded him when he did it. Once he had the path down we would have people knock at windows and rattle doors while he was "surveying". Sure enough he went into guard dog mode.
Now that he knows it he goes out and does his thing and comes back and always gets a reward. It makes me feel safer and makes him feel important.
